Pros and Cons

Here are the pros and cons of using GreenGeeks as your hosting platform.

Positives

Singapore data center confirmed and selectable since January 2023 for all plan types including shared, VPS, and reseller — renewable energy-powered and directly relevant for Vietnamese and APAC audience websites
LiteSpeed web servers included on all plans even the entry Lite tier, delivering 395ms TTFB and 99.96 percent measured annual uptime in independent 2025 testing
100 percent independently owned since founding with EPA Green Power Partner certification since 2009 and 4.6 out of 5 Trustpilot rating from 1586 reviews — the strongest combination of ownership stability and customer satisfaction in the budget segment reviewed

Negatives

Lite plan renewal price jumps from $2.95 per month to $13.95 per month — a 373 percent increase representing the steepest renewal price shock in this review series, compounded by documented surprise rate hike tactics on multi-year contract renewals
Singapore data center delivers approximately 2-second average latency from Asia despite being a Singapore node, significantly underperforming native Singapore infrastructure providers for Vietnam-audience dynamic websites
Cancellation process documented as arduous with threats of auto-renewal and no refunds if forms are not completed within a deadline — inconsistent with the brand's ethical and eco-conscious positioning

Interesting facts

Discover the unique features that make GreenGeeks stand out

Founded in 2008 by Trey Gardner who remains CEO as of March 2026; 100 percent privately owned with no PE investment or parent holding company; EPA-recognized Green Power Partner since 2009 — the longest-running eco-hosting certification in the reviewed series

Singapore data center launched January 2023 as the fourth global location alongside Chicago, Montreal, and Amsterdam; all locations are powered by 300 percent renewable energy credits via the Bonneville Environmental Foundation with physical REC certificates

LiteSpeed web servers are deployed on all shared hosting tiers including the entry $2.95 per month Lite plan — unusual in the industry where budget plans typically use Apache; AI-powered WordPress builder launched January 2025 creates complete WordPress sites in under 60 seconds

GreenGeeks's rating Trusted Provider

We rate features of services on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest rating and 5 being the highest rating. We also take into account the opinions of other users when rating features. We read user reviews and feedback to get a sense of how other people are using the features and what they think of them.

Generally dependable with mostly positive trust signals. Clear policies, stable performance, and support that usually resolves common issues.

Features
4 /5 Good

LiteSpeed web servers on all tiers including entry, Singapore DC, cPanel and Softaculous, free Cloudflare CDN, free SSL wildcard, free daily backup, free domain year one, AI WordPress builder, managed VPS and reseller hosting form a comprehensive feature set; single-site limit and 25GB storage cap on the Lite plan are notable restrictions

Reliability
4.2 /5 Trustworthy

99.96 percent measured uptime over a full year in independent Hostingstep testing; multiple reviewers documented 100 percent uptime over extended monitoring periods; LiteSpeed infrastructure with container isolation and no-overselling policy; Singapore DC latency of approximately 2 seconds from Asia is higher than expected for a Singapore node

User Experience
3.7 /5 Good

Quick Launch Wizard and AI WordPress builder launched January 2025 lower the setup barrier for beginners; September 2025 dashboard update integrated key cPanel features; some tasks still require navigating to full cPanel separately; domain privacy requires an additional purchase

Support
4 /5 Good

4.6 out of 5 Trustpilot rating from 1586 reviews with over 80 percent five-star ratings; human agents confirmed on 24/7 live chat; proactive phone outreach to customers documented; email responses under 10 minutes; phone support limited to EST business hours is a structural gap for APAC customers

Pricing
2.8 /5 Fair value for money

Competitive intro pricing from $2.95 per month on 12-month plans; however the Lite plan renewal jumps to $13.95 per month representing a 373 percent increase — the steepest renewal price jump in this review series; documented surprise rate hikes on multi-year renewals with inadequate advance notice compound this risk

Promotions
3.5 /5 Good discount

Promotional rates available on 12-month commitment which is a lower barrier than Bluehost requiring 3-year terms; referral program pays up to $100 per referral with prominent dashboard placement; no consistently available public coupon codes at the scale of Namecheap or Hostinger

Other Factors
3.8 /5 Good

100 percent independent private ownership with no private equity involvement is a genuine differentiator in a PE-dominated industry; EPA Green Power Partner since 2009 with 300 percent renewable energy credit match is the most credible eco-hosting credential in this review series; Singapore DC confirmed since January 2023; documented cancellation friction and rate hike pattern are credibility deductions

When relying on technology very little is more important than the speed, efficiency and courtesy of tech support. (Or any other support for that matter). GreenGeeks shines. if you're providing web-related services to clients, you want partners/providers who take your business as seriously as you do. This is them.

Greengeeks ws recommended to me based on their customer service and pricing to host my website. The process was easy to sign up for, and it is my hosting platform, and my business emails are all in one place. Greengeeks' website was easy to navigate, and their customer service is superb. They are quick to respond, and their follow-up is amazing to make sure that the issue is resolved. If you are searching for a new hosting company or want to change hosting platforms, you will be pleasantly surprised. I usually do not bother writing reviews, but this is the first time in ages that I wrote a review that shows how impressed I am with Greengeeks.

Edit: I am revising my review based on GreenGeeks responding to this review and correcting the situation. I have risen my rating from one star to three stars.Previous Review: I would never do business with Green Geeks again. After I transferred my hosting away to a different company, they still charged me for the renewal. This is after I got on Support with them to make SURE I was not going to be charged, and was assured I was not. I was told I no longer had any active hosting services with them, and therefore would not be charged. As a precaution, I tried to turn off "auto renewal", but there was no such functionality. So I tried to at least delete my credit card, so there could be no mistake on their end. There was no possible way to remove the card.Sure enough, I receive a charge for $162 for a renewed year of service. After calling support again, I was told I actually needed to cxl 5 days prior to renewal. Not only was this not mentioned on my previous chats (which they do not let the customer access), and was explicitly told I would NOT be charged as my service was no longer active. After some back and forth, I received a partial refund. I am absolutely furious that this is how they treat a customer who has used them off and on for YEARS with various websites. I would urge anyone reading this to get your services elsewhere. I found an AWESOME new host who I am very happy with and who have great prices, even upon renewal.

I’ve had other hosts in the past and they don’t hold a candle to this company. It’s affordable, it’s easy to setup and if you have any troubles the support team is there to help immediately. Definitely recommend

As the title says, I spent 23 years with what eventually became a Newfold Digital acquisition. As a legacy account, I increasingly found myself benefiting from legacy features that they didn't turn off (catch-all email addresses, large storage capacity) and hobbled by the need for à la carte feature purchases, redirected support, and pay-for-support offers for problems that any web hosting company should have provided for free. After a long three weeks of php/MySQL nonsense this past May/June, I began the search for a new provider and found GreenGeeks had both everything I needed in place and provided me support for a few things I wanted on the side that other hosting companies said they would not do. Migration for two websites was easy and my downtime of switching hosting and email was on the order of a few minutes during the total process. The support is great, the loading times are a fraction of what they were with my other company, and I appreciate the green stance the company has taken. I'm very happy and think they're well worth your consideration.

I requested a domain cancellation for a domain I'm not using, but they responded that it can only be done a couple of weeks before renewal and that they can't cancel the auto-renewal. This seems really strange.

Happily migrated after 23 years, didn't know how bad my old service actually was
